Private Raymond Frederick John AVERNS, G/17772, 6th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died,  Flanders, France,  30th July 1918, age 22.

1896, June Quarter, born Coventry, Warwickshire, son of Raymond Herbert and Laura Dean Averns, of 12, Lydgate Road, Coventry, Warwickshire. One brother, one sister.

Enlisted  Coventry, Warwickshire, age 20, resided 12 Lydgate Road, Coventry. Formerly university student.

Home 22nd June 1916 to 2nd October 1916; BEF, 3rd October 1916 to 30th July 1918.

22nd June 1916, called up for Service; 23rd June 1916, posted to 27th Reserve Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, 3327; 1st September 1916, posted to 103 Training Reserve Battalion; 3rd October 1916 posted BEF & transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment; 6th October 1916, embarked to France; 18th October 1916, joined 6th Battalion,  Royal West Kent Regiment; 27th February 1917, awarded 14 days Field Punishment No.1; 25th April 1917. 10 Field Ambulance, admitted with impetigo; 4th May 1917, discharged to Duty; 9th June 1917, attached 37 Brigade; 29th March 1918, posted missing; 8th June 1918, shown on German Prisoner of War; 30th July 1918, died in Prisoner of War Hospital Barracks Conde, cardiac weakness.

11th September 1919, Statement of Relatives - Father, Raymond Herbert Averns, 12, Lydgate Road, Coventry; Mother, Laura Dean Averns, 12, Lydgate Road, Coventry; Brother, Reginald Dean Averns, age 26, 89 Cotham Brow, Bristol; Sister, Stella Averns, age 18, 12, Lydgate Road, Coventry.

Buried at Conde-sur-L'Escaut Communal Cemetery, A78, Nord, France.
