Private Richard CUSSELL, L/9921, 2nd  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died, Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force, 14th February 1916.

Born Camberwell, Surrey, son of John Cussell, 47 Rosedale Street, Camberwell, Surrey. Brothers, Charles, John, ????.

Enlisted New Cross, Kent / Woolwich Kent, age 18 years & 8 months, height 5ft 2⅜ inches, weight 135lbs, scar left knee & inside left ankle, scar left buttock & inside left thigh, blue eyes, light brown hair. Formerly timber yard labourer.

16th January 1912, enlisted & posted 6th Battalion, Rifle Brigade, Special Reserve, Service No101; 27th January 1912, admitted to hospital suffering from hernia; 16th March 1912, dismissed to home on medical grounds; 31st March 1912, rejoined for D on E; 29th June 1912, completed 5 months; 7th July 1912, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th February 1913, Dublin, having a dirty great coat at inspection, 5 days confined to Barracks; 2nd May 1913, Dublin, firing on the wrong target, 5 days confined to Barracks; 20th October 1914 to 26th October 1914, Multan, India, malaria; 3rd April 1915, making an insubordinate remark to an NCO, 168 hours Field Punishment No.2;

Buried at Basra War Cemetery, V. W. 20. , Iraq.

SOLDIERS  BALANCES UNDISPOSED OF.

In pursuance of "The Regimental Debts Act, 1893," notice is hereby given that there is available for distribution amongst the Next of Kin or others entitled the sum of money set opposite to the name of each of the deceased Soldiers named in the lists which are published with this notice in the London Gazette and the " Army List," and are also to be seen at the Regimental Depots throughout the United Kingdom.

Applications from persons supposing themselves entitled as Next of Kin should be addressed by letter to "The Secretary, War Office, Park Buildings, St. James's Park, London, S.W.," and marked outside "Effects."
