Private Reuben CROUCHER, TF/1976,  "D" Company,  3rd/4th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died at Tonbridge, Kent, 2nd June 1916, age 22.

1895 July, born Orpington, Kent, Son of *Reuben & Mary Anne Croucher, (nee Roberts), of 10, Mount Pleasant, Moorfield Road, Orpington, Kent. 

* Reuben Croucher died 1900 June Quarter, Orpington.

1901, December Quarter, Bromley Registration District, Mary Ann Croucher, married John Crawford.


1911 Census - 10, Mount Pleasant, Moorfield Road, Orpington, Kent - Jonathan Crawford, head, age 50?, farm labourer, born Orpington, Kent; Mary Ann Crawford, wife, age 40, married 12 years, 2 children, both still alive, born Orpington, Kent; Rubin Croucher, son, age 15, farm labourer, born Orpington, Kent; Johnny? Croucher, son, age 10, school, born Orpington, Kent; Alfred Crawford, son, age 8?, born Orpington, Kent; Jackey? Crawford, son age 6?, born Orpington, Kent.


Enlisted Tonbridge, Kent, age 20¼ years, weight 9st 11 ounces. Resided 10, Mount Pleasant, Moorfield Road, Orpington, Kent. Formerly carman.

14th August 1914, enlisted; 2nd June 1916, died of cerebro spinal fever.

29th July 1919, Statement of Relatives - Mother, Mary Ann Crawford; Brother - Jonathan Croucher, age 19. HM Forces; Half Brothers - Alfred Crawford, age 17, H M Forces; Jack Crawford, age 14, Mount Pleasant, Orpington; Sister - M A Smith, 28 Dumbar? Street?, West Norwood.

His brother Edward also fell.

Buried at  Orpington (All Saints) Churchyard, D.D.6., Orpington, Kent. Commemorated on Orpington War Memorial.
