Enlisted 11th December 1915, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, age 21, height 5ft 7 inches, resided 4 Somerset Villas, Groombridge, Sussex / Cold Harbour Farm, Bletchingley, Surrey. Formerly railway porter.

Son of Leonard Botting, Starborough Stud, Edenbridge, Kent.

Home, 11th December 1915 to 17th June 1917; BEF, 18th June 1917 to 8th August 1917; Home, 9th August 1917 to 14th December 1917.

11th December 1915, enlisted and transferred to Army Reserve; 2nd April 1917, mobilized; 6th April 1917, posted to 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 18th June 1917, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment and BEF France; 4th July 1917, posted 11th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th August 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

14th December 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness.   Silver War Badge issued

Pension of 27/6 a week for 4 weeks, then 19/5, to be reviewed in 26 weeks. Disability, Trench feet.
