Enlisted Newark, Nottinghamshire, age 19 years & 253 days, height 5ft 6 inches, 122lbs. Resided Hillside, Newark, Nottinghamshire. Formerly waggoner.

20th November 1915, enlisted; 23rd November 1915, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 26th November 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 29th June 1916, posted BEF & 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th July 1916, 24 Infantry Base Depot, attached 22nd Manchester's; 15th July 1916, reported Killed in Action by Officer Commanding, 22nd Manchester's.

30th December 1916, War Office memo to Infantry Records - "With reference to the disposal of any medals which may be awarded in respect of the service of the late No.11179, Private O Farrance, 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, I am directed to inform you that any such decorations should be retained on behalf of the deceased soldiers brother now serving as No.S/3/030278, Private H Farrance, 15th Field Battery, Army Service Corps, until his return from Active Service; 16 December 1919, Next of Kin, Brother, Hugh Farrance, 1 Virginia Place, Church Path, Deal, Kent.

9th October 1918, soldiers personal belongings sent to sister- Miss Alice Farrance, Southernhaze, Fife Road, East Sheen; 17th October 1918, returned by H Jones of Southernhaze, Fife Road, East Sheen, where Alice Farrance was a servant until July 1916; 17th October 1918, Infantry Records Office memo to H Jones seeking address of Miss Alice Farrance; 21st October 1918, response from H Jones - "In answer to your letter of 17th instant I have ascertained that the nearest known relation of Miss Farrance is Mr T Brandon, (Uncle), Butcher, of 36 Hampton Road, Twickenham. I do not know if she is residing with her relatives. At one time she was unfortunately detained by the Poor Law Authorities owing to mental trouble; 21st November 1918, Mr T Brandon, (Uncle), advised address of Miss Farrance is now H2 Ward, Chartham Assylum, Chartham, near Canterbury, Kent; 16 December 1919, Next of Kin, Brother, Hugh Farrance, 1 Virginia Place, Church Path, Deal, Kent.

Commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Panel 45 and 47, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
