4th September 1914, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th September 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th October 1914, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th October 1914, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 24th September 1915, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 8th December 1915, Depot, appointed Acting Corporal; 12th January 1916, wounded, gun shot wound right leg; 17th January 1916 to 1st March 1916, War Hospital Bangor, admitted to hospital with bullet wound right leg, wound healed, but found to be suffering from scabies; 12th March 1916, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th April 1916, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 14th August 1916, wounded, arm left, amputated; 20th August 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 10th January 1917, The King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London, SE; 10th January 1917, Queen Mary's Convalescent Hospital, Roehampton.
31st January 1917, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued
Pension 27/- a week for 2 moths then 15/- for life.
