Private John William BUSHELL, G/6271, 8th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds received in action, No.17 Casualty Clearing Station, Flanders France, 12th January 1916, age 23.

Born 20th September 1892, St Johns, Margate, Kent, second Son of John & Esther, (daughter of Henry Bishop), Bushell, of "Brier House," 27, Buckingham Road, Margate, Kent.

Educated Salmestone School, Margate, Kent.

Enlisted Margate, Kent, age 22 years, 7 months, height 5ft 4 inches, weight 126lbs. Resided , Kent. Formerly florist.

Home 2st April 1915 to 30th September 1915; BEF 1st October 1915 to 12th January 1916.

21st April 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st May 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st October 1915, posted BEF & 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th January 1916, report from Captain R A Hood, RAMC, Commanding No.17, Casualty Clearing Station, " I regret to inform you of the following death in this hospital:- No.6271 Pte J Bushell, 8th Royal West Kent Regiment at 10.20pm 12th January 1916 from contusions and fractured ribs. (Buried by shell fire).

A Lieutenant in his Battalion wrote: "He was one of my best men; a model man in many ways. With all the NCO's and men he was very popular."
