Enlisted 1st September 1914, Bromley, Kent, age 35, height 5ft 8 inches, weight 155lbs, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, operation scar above left forearm, 2 flags, TJJ right forearm. Formerly coalman.

Home 1st September 1914 to 31st May 1915; BEF 1st June 1915 to 30th November 1917.

1st September 1914, enlisted; 3rd September 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd September 1914, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st June 1915, posted BEF & embarked; 5th February 1917 to 15th February 1917, granted leave to England; 30th November 1917, posted missing.

Pensions awarded 4th September 1918;

 5/- a week for child (Cecil Cruckshank, born 11th June 1904, Croydon) with Lucy Cruckshank, separated since 1913 now living at 26 Farringdon Place, Southend on Sea, Essex. 3rd March 1920, 6 Hartfield Grove, Penge, SE20.

6/8 a week awarded to Guardian of  Lucy Ivy Cruckshank, born March 1903, Mrs J Isabella R Morgan, (sister of Private James George Cruckshank), 61 / 63 Kingswood Road, Penge, SE20.

Commemorated at Cambrai Memorial, Panel 8, Louverval, Nord, France.
