Previously served 8 years, 1st Volunteer Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

Son of Edward Nichols, 44 Wyatt Street, Maidstone, Kent.

26th October 1915, enlisted & posted 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 26th October 1915, appointed Acting Corporal; 3rd May 1916, posted BEF; 12th March 1917, In the Field, when on Active Service being absent from 10.00am Parade, severe reprimand; 7th June 1917, wounded, gun shot wound, left forearm; 9th June 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th October 1917, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th December 1917, posted BEF; 17th December 1917, posted 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th April 1918, reverts to Private, own request; 23rd July 1918, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th August 1918, wounded; 27th August 1918, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 2nd April 1919, 2nd Northern General Hospital, Leeds.

8th April 1919, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 11/- a week for 52 weeks conditional, disability, gun shot wound, right forearm, prevents 40%.
