Private Herbert FRANCE, G/18195, 7th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, (formerly PS/10987, Royal Fusiliers), died of wounds, (effects of being gassed on 10th October 1917), at No.8. General Hospital, Flanders France,  18th October 1917, age 22. 

Born 11th June 1895, Heckmondwyke, Yorkshire, enlisted Coventry, Warwickshire, resided  Coventry, Warwickshire.  Formerly Clerk in the employ of Messrs Burrows, Batley Carr.

Son of John France, (textile operative),  and Mary Ellen France, (daughter of Samuel Tingle of Heckmondwyke), of 19, Birkhead St., Heckmondwyke, Yorkshire.

1st May 1916, joined Public School Boys Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers; trained at Edinburgh; served with the Expeditionary Force France & Flanders from 28th August 1916; transferred to the West Kent Regiment; wounded 29th May 1917, while out on night patrol, and sent on sick leave; rejoined his Regiment on recovery.

Unmarried.

Commemorated at  Wimereux Communal Cemetery, VI.E.3., Pas de Calais, France.
