Son of Thomas James Bateman, 1 Lily Cottages, Westerham Hill, Kent.

Home, 3rd February 1916 to 12th September 1916; BEF, 13th September 1916 to 12th October 1916; Home, 13th October 1916 to 10th November 1917.

3rd February 1916, enlisted; 4th February 1916, transferred to Army Reserve; 10th May 1916, mobilized and posted to Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th May 1916, posted to 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st September 1916, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th September 1916, posted to Infantry Base; 29th September 1916, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 15th October 1916, posted to Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment;

8th October 1914, wounded, gun shot wound, left forearm.

10th November 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds.  Silver War Badge issued

Pension 27/6 for 4 weeks, then 16/6 to be reviewed in 48 weeks. Gun shot wound, left forearm.
