11th February 1916, enlisted; 12th February 1916, to Army Reserve; 25th May 1916, Herne Bay, Recruiting Office, mobilized & posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd November 1916, posted BEF; 7th November 1916, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th April 1917, wounded, gun shot wound, compound fracture of the upper jaw; 20th April 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 20th April 1917 to 21st May 1917, Quarry Place Aux Hospital, Shrewsbury, gun shot wound of face with compound fracture of upper jaw; 20th May 1917 to 7th June 1917, Berrington War Hospital, Shrewsbury, gun shot wound of face with compound fracture of upper jaw.

8th August 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued

Pension of 13/9 a week to be reviewed in 52 weeks.
