Enlisted  Marylebone, Middlesex, age 23 years & 9 months, height 5ft 7 inches, weight 125lbs, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair. Resided 14 Hermitage Street, Marylebone. Formerly carman.


29th November 1914, Paddington, married Annie O'Connor, (born 7th February 1892), spinster, 29 Brindley Street, Harrow Road, Paddington.

Child - Mary Ellen Shorting, born 28th September 1915, Paddington.

8th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th September 1914, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th March 1915, absent from Church Parade at 7.30am, 3 days confined to Barracks; 18th April 1915, Redhill, overstaying his pass from 12 midnight to midnight 19th inst., deprived of 2 days pay, forfeits one days pay; 21st August 1915, overstaying his pass from 11.00pm to 9.30pm 22nd inst., 7 days confined to Barracks, forfeits one days pay; 30th August 1915, posted BEF.

20th October 1915, report from Officer Commanding, 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards, buried in rear of Trenches East of Vermilles. Refer to map sheet 36c square G17 G6,7.

1st May 1916, pension of 15/- a week awarded to widow and one child.

1919 June Paddington Registration District, Annie Shorting married Peter Moore.
