Private G HOWE,  8739, 2nd Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

AWARDS: DCM, Russia - Medal of St George


London Gazette 9th October 1915.

His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the under mentioned Warrant officers, Non Commissioned Officers and Men, for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty whilst serving with the Expeditionary Forces in France and Flanders and in Mesopotamia.

8739 Private G. Howe, 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

For conspicuous gallantry on the 24th July, 1915, near Nasiriyah (Mesopotamia). Private Howe went to the assistance of Lieut. A. L. Hill, who was wounded and engaging the enemy with his sword. He bayonetted four of them and shot one, thereby saving the Officer's life.

The following formed part of the Russian Decorations awarded in July, 1916, to the British Forces for distinguished services rendered during the course of the campaign:

His Majesty the King has given unrestricted permission in all cases to wear the Decorations and medals in question.
