Born Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, 11th April 1888, enlisted 11th September 1914, Gravesend, Kent, age 26, height 5ft 6 inches, weight 129lbs, resided 67 Queen Street, Gravesend, Kent / 1 Prospect Place, Gravesend, Kent / 3 Riverside Villas, Denton, Gravesend, Kent. Formerly labourer.

Previously served with 3rd Battalion, Essex Regiment, time expired.

Husband of Ellen Elizabeth Bruce, (nee Watts), 67 Queen Street, Gravesend, Kent. Married 6th August 1911, Gravesend Registry Office.

Children - Victor George Bruce, born 24th May 1912, Gravesend, Kent; David Henry Bruce, born 4th April 1914, Gravesend, Kent.

11th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 16th September 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th October 1914, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

14th May 1915, Medical Board, Chatham, Kent, originated prior to enlistment, he is extremely deaf in both ears, there is a purulent discharge from either ear, both drums are perforated, not caused by service, permanently prevents 25%. The condition is chronic, He has been attending as an outpatient practically since his enlistment. Has done no drill. Has not been on active service. Caused as secondary to measles or scarlet fever in childhood, not the result of military service.

26th May 1915, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued

13th June 1917, gratuity of £20.
