Born Brasted, Sevenoaks, Kent, enlisted 1st September 1914, Tonbridge, Kent, age 23, height 5ft 8 inches. Formerly worked with Shire horses.

Son of George Baker, Court Lodge Cottage, Brasted, Sevenoaks, Kent,

Home, 1st September 1914 to 31st May 1915; BEF, 1st June 1915 to 21st May 1916; Home, 22nd May 1916 to 10th February 1917.

4th September 1914, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 22nd May 1916, posted Depot; 5th April 1916, wounded, multiple gun shot wounds; 8th April 1916, right leg amputated; 23rd May 1916 admitted to Edinburgh War Hospital, gun shot wound right leg with amputation & face; 29th May 1916, re-amputation; 20th August 1916, all wounds healed; 14th December 1916, transferred to Queens Mary's Hospital Roehampton.

10th February 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds.  Silver War Badge issued.
