Private Frederick LEGGETT, G/11002, 1st  Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, 14th April 1918.

Born West Ham, London, Surrey, son of Mrs Catherine Leggett, 18 Hack Road, Tidal Basin, Victoria Docks, E16.

Enlisted  Sunderland, age 24.  Resided 16 Hudson Buildings, Hendon, Sunderland. Formerly labourer.

Home, 16th November 1915 to 14th April 1916; BEF, 15th April 1916 to 18th June 1916; Home, 19th June 1916 to 29th August 1916; BEF, 30th August 1916 to 14th April 1918.

16th November 1915, enlisted; 26th November 1915, Chatham, Whilst on Active Service, was absent from Parade at 7.00am, 5 days confined to Barracks; 23rd January 1916, Chatham, Whilst on Active Service, was absent from 2pm until 9.30pm & not cleaning his equipment, 5 days confined to Barracks, forfeits one days pay; 16th August 1916, Fort Darland, Whilst on Active Service, slackness on parade, 7 days confined to Barracks; 19th December 1916, In the Field, Whilst on Active Service, leaving the firing line without permission, deprived of 28 days pay.

15th June 1916, Allouagne, France, wounded inner side of right knee, wound three quarters of an inch long, piece of bomb embedded in flesh, not a very severe wound. 18th June 1916, Report - a party of men were engaged in firing Mills No.5. grenades from the Cup attachment. The bomb had been prepared, placed in the cup, and the pin inspected. On being fired the bomb just left the cup and fell on the ground. While going to cover, Pte Leggett was wounded; 16th June 1916, 36 Field Ambulance then 23rd Casualty Clearing Station; 17th June 1916 to No.3. Ambulance Train; 19th June 1916 to England on HS Van Brydal; 19th June 1916 to 15th July 1916, Southall Aux Military Hospital.

12th October to 22nd October 1917, leave; 12th December 1917, with Battalion to Italy;  3rd April 1918, left Italy with Battalion for France.

Commemorated at Ploegsteert Memorial, Panel 8, Belgium.
