Born St Pauls, Maidstone, Kent, enlisted 2nd September 1914, Maidstone, Kent, age 31, height 5ft 8½ inches, weight 134lbs. Formerly farm labourer.

Son of Walter Henry Inkpen, 124 Milton Street, Maidstone, Kent.

Previously served Lance Sergeant, 6426, in the East Kent Regiment, (The Buffs), enlisted 20th October 1900, Chatham, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 5¼ inches, weight 115lbs. 20th October 1900 to 14th October 1902, Home. 15th October 1902 to 13th October 1903, India. 14th October 1903 to 8th December 1904, Aden. 9th December 1904, Home. 25th May 1908, appointed paid Lance Sergeant. Discharged 7th December 1909, with enteric fever (typhoid carrier, urinary) & will not submit to further treatment. 31st October 1910, Guildford, Medical Report - general health good, stigma of being a carrier prevents him from getting regular work. 1st November 1911, Medical Report - still a carrier, no change in his condition, not working at present. 6th October 1912, Medical Report - no change. 7th November 1913, Medical Report on current health of Pensioner to assist in determining his claim for a further grant of pension. Cannot get a regular work without hiding the fact he is a carrier, some evidence of kidney disease. Examined every month by Ministry of Health and confirmed he is still a carrier.

Home, 2nd September 1914 to 24th December 1914.

2nd September 1914, enlisted; 4th September 1914, posted Sergeant, 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment;

24th December 1914, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued
