Private Francis Herbert NOWELL, G/5472, 8th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, died on or since, 26th September 1915.

Born Burnley, Lancashire, enlisted 18th January 1915, Accrington, Lancashire, age 30, height 5ft 6 inches, weight 151lbs, resided 8 Spread Eagle St, Oswaldtwistle. Formerly miner.

Husband of Agnes Martin (formerly Nowell nee Ainsworth), of 26, Alexandra Terrace, Darwen, Lancashire. Married Sacred Heart, Darwen, 6th June 1908.

Child - James Henry Nowell, born 25th February 1919, Oswaldtwistle.

21st June 1915, Horsham, drunk on line of march, offering violence towards an NCO, 14 days confined to Barracks.

23rd June 1916, pension of 15/- a week awarded to widow and child.

Commemorated at Loos Memorial, Panel 95 to 97, France.
