22nd November 1900, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st March 1902, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 31st May 1902, Malta, drunk on landing at Sliema, at about 6.45 pm, 8 days confined to Barracks; 9th December 1902, posted 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st March 1903, using improper language towards an NCO, 7 days confined to Barracks; 20th December 1904, allowed to extend his service to complete 8 years with the Colours; 3rd March 1906, Hong Kong, not complying with an order, 7 days confined to Barracks; 29th January 1908, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 23rd August 1908, Dover, being found in the South Front Married Quarters at 1.00am, 10 days confined to Barracks, forfeits one Good Conduct Badge; 21st November 1908, transferred to Army Reserve; 21st November 1909, re-engaged; 22nd November 1912, re-engaged for action for four years; 5th August 1914, mobilized; 6th August 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th August 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

25th June 1915, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued

In the trenches, between the 23rd and 26th October 1914, when exposed to a very heavy bombardment at Neuve Chapelle, continually carried messages under heavy fire.
