Born Whitstone, Devon, son of John & Jane Chudley, Weekabacough?, Ippelpies?, Newton Abbott / Fursdon Cottages, Staveston, Totnes.

Enlisted Okehampton, Devon, age 23 years & 238 days, height 5ft 4½ inches, weight 112lbs. Resided Jacobstowe, Exbourne, Devon. Formerly engine driver.

Home 9th December 1915 to 11th October 1917; BEF,12th October 1917 to 26th October 1917.

9th December 1915, enlisted; 10th December 1915, to Army Reserve; 31st August 1916, mobilized;  11th Hussars, Service No.32823; 4th September 1916, Portsmouth, failed to pass his trade test as an engine driver & sent back to Devon Regiment, Exeter; 13th February 1917, posted 3rd Reserve Cavalry Regiment; 6th March 1917 to 12April 1917, Connaught Hospital, treated for for pain in left side of chest & a cough, pleurisy, discharged to duty; 26th May 1917 to 13th July 1917, Connaught Hospital, pleurisy, with effusion; 25th August 1917, transferred to 5th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers; 12th October 1917, posted BEF & embarked; 13th October 1917, 39 Infantry Base Depot, Etaples; 14th October 1917, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment, & posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 16th October 1917, joined Battalion; 26th October 1917, posted missing.

10th October 1919, Statement of Relatives, completed by Jane Chudley - Father, John Chudley, Fursdon Cottages, Staveston, Totnes; Mother, Jane Chudley, Fursdon Cottages, Staveston, Totnes; Uncles / Aunts - HIs father has no brothers or sisters; His mother has 3 brothers & 2 sisters, George Woodman, Exeter; Charles Woodman, Poltimac?; William Woodman, Crediton; Emma Woodman & Fanny Smith.

Commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, Panel 106 to 108, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
