27th May 1908, Registry Office, Warwick, married Edith Sarah Hodges, spinster, Myrtle House, Church Street, Birchington, Kent.  Later at 24 Lathom Avenue, Liscard, Wallasley, Cheshire.

Children - Alfred Leslie Checkley, born 9th March 1910, Kenilworth, Warwickshire; William James Checkley, born 18th May 1911, Buckingham.

20th September 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 20th September 1915, posted 10th Battalion,  Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd May 1916, posted BEF; 3rd May 1916, embarked Southampton; 4th May 1916, Havre, disembarked; 8th July 1916, No.1 Canadian Clearing Station, died of wounded, gun shot wound scalp, fractured skull.

17th January 1917, awarded a pension of 21/- a week for widow & 2 children.
