Born Pyecombe, Sussex, son of Thomas and Sarah Jane Saunders, High Woods. Little Common, Bexhill on Sea, Sussex / near Red Lion Inn, Hooe Common, nr. Battle, Sussex / The Cottage, Gotham Wood, Bexhill on Sea, Sussex.

1908 June, Cuckfield Registration District, Sarah Jane Saunders, died age 49.

1909 March, Uckfield Registration District, Thomas Saunders married Ellen Bessie Lines.

1911 Census - Hole Inn, Shepperton Green, Shepperton-on-Thames, Middlesex - Thomas Saunders, head, age 46, married, gardener, jobbing., worker, born Grofin?, Sussex; Ellen Saunders, wife, age 44, married 2 years, 1 child, still alive, beerhouse keeper, own account, born Newton Bromswold, Northampshire; Earnest Saunders, son, age 15, single, gardener, market gardener, worker, born Pyecombe, Sussex; Helen Saunders, daughter, age 15 months.


Enlisted Maidstone, Kent, age 21 years & 24 days, height 5ft 4¼ inches. Resided Cockhurst, Shoreham, near Sevenoaks, Kent. Formerly farm labourer.

Home 12th December 1915 to 31st May 1916; BEF 1st June 1916 to 14th November 1916.

Buried at Contay British Cemetery, II. F. 3., Contay, France.
