13th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st April 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th May 1915, Chatham, When on Active Service, absent from Tattoo until 7.30pm 10th May, 7 days confined to Barracks, forfeits 2 days pay; 22nd June 1915, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 31st August 1915, In the Field, irregular conduct, fighting in the Line of March, 4 days confined to Barracks; 5th July 1916, wounded, gun shot wound, face & right knee; 6th July 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th January 1917, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th January 1917, Fort Horsted, Whilst on Active Service, disobeying Battalion Orders, taking in trousers, 7 days confined to Barracks; 7th February 1917, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th October 1917, wounded, gun shot wound, right upper right arm; 14th October 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 16th May to 23rd May 1918, absent without leave, forfeits 8 days pay; 26th May 1918 to 4th June 1918, 2nd Birmingham War Hospital, furlough granted, address whilst on leave, Taplow Court, Taplow, Maidenhead. Shell wound, right shoulder; 10th June 1918, posted Eastern Command Depot, Shoreham by Sea, Sussex; 19th June 1918, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

10th August 1918, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 27/6 a week from 11th August 1918 for 4 weeks, then 13/9 a week to be reviewed in 48 weeks.

29th September 1919, living at No.1. Rye Villas, St Marys Cray, Kent.

AWARDS: MM - presented August 1918, by Brigadier General, Commandant Motor Transport Reception and Training, 45 Eltham Road, Lee, SE12.
