Born Bow, London, Middlesex, son of Mrs Marian Barker, 58 Dacre Road, Upton Manor, Plaistow. Later 70 Martin Street, Stratford.

Sister Emma Barker, 38 Carlton Road, Manor Park.

1st August 1908, Parish Church, Little Ilford, married Elizabeth Rouse, spinster.

Children - Ernest Henry Barker, born 8th March 1916, East Ham;  Authur James Barker, born 8th March 1916, East Ham.


1911 Census - 27 Seventh Avenue, Manor Park, E - Ernest James Barker, head, age 33, married, insurance agent, born Bow Middlesex; Marion Barker, wife, age 33, married 2 years, no children, born Longford, Ireland.


Served "under twelve months" with Imperial Light Horse.

Enlisted  Leyton, Essex, age 34, height 5 ft 5 inches, weight 132 lbs, blue eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion. Distinctive marks - Tattoo, ship, right forearm, bracelet right wrist, rose, shamrock & thistle left forearm. Scar right hip. Resided Leyton, Essex. Formerly commission agent.

Home 9th September 1914 to 29th August 1915; BEF 30th August 1915 to 26th September 1915.

9th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th September 1914, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th February 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 27th March 1915, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

3rd July 1916, pension of 18/6 a week awarded to widow & two children.

Commemorated at Loos Memorial, Panel 95 to 97, Pas de Calais, France.
