Private Edward Farr HARDMAN, 4171,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Enlisted 9th November 1915, (joined from Army Reserve), Barnstaple, Devon, age 21, height 5ft 10 inches, resided North View House, Summerland St, Barnstaple, Devon. Formerly outfitter.

Husband of Ethel Victoria Hardman (nee Higgs), North View House, Summerland St, Barnstaple, Devon.  Married 27th October 1915, Register Office, Barnstaple, Devon.

Home, 9th November 1915 to 12th February 1917.

9th November 1915, enlisted; 10th November 1915 to Army Reserve; 28th April 1916, posted 2/5th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 7th June 1916 to 17th July 1916, Tonbridge VAD, chronic rheumatism.

15th December 1916, Medical Report - chronic rheumatism - originated 1905, Lynton, Devon. Had severe attacks of  rheumatism when 9 years old, in bed for 3 months, & has been subject to recurrent attacks from time to time ever since. Both knees, ankles & big toe joints are enlarged & the movements in all of these joints are practically nil. The disease was contracted prior to enlistment and was not aggravated by service. Permanent in some degree. Prevents ¾ (but has no connection with Military Service).

12th February 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued

Rejected for pension.
