Born Wadhurst, Sussex, son of Henry and Martha Cheesman, of Oak Tree Cottage, Wadhurst, Sussex.

10th April 1912, Ticehurst, Sussex, married Laura Puxty, spinster, of Church Lane, Ticehurst, Sussex.

Child  - Frederick Ernest Cheesman, born 24th January 1913, Ticehurst, Sussex.

Previously served R.GA. 4 years.

Enlisted Hastings, Sussex, age 30 years & 11 months, height 5ft 8¾ inches, weight 130lbs. Resided Halland Cottage, Wadhurst, Sussex. Formerly gamekeeper.

Separation Allowance of 16/- a week and Allotment of Pay of 3/6 a week paid to wife.

Home 18th November 1915 to 7th May 1917; BEF 8th May 1917 to 24th June 1917.

18th November 1915, enlisted; 19th November 1915, to Army Reserve; 31st May 1916, mobilized; 3rd June 1916, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 8th May 1917, embarked, 8th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, Service No. 12235;  8th May 1917, 39 Infantry Base Depot; 23rd May 1917, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment & posted 8th Battalion; 25th May 1917, joined Battalion In the Field; 11th June 1917, wounded; 24th June 1917, 3 Canadian Clearing Station, France, gun shot wound back, fractured spine & both legs.

7th January 1918, pension of 18/9 a week awarded to widow & 1 child.

11th June 1920, Statement of Relatives - Widow, Laura Cheesman, Church Lane, Ticehurst, Sussex; Child - Frederick Ernest Cheesman, born 24th January 1913; Father Henry Cheesman, Oak Tree Cottage, Wadhurst, Sussex; Mother, Martha Cheesman, Oak Tree Cottage, Wadhurst, Sussex; 4 brothers, 2 sisters.

Buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, XIV. D. 8., Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
