Private Edmo(u)nd CHEESEMAN,  L/7312, 11th. Battalion Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, Flanders France, 1st October 1916, age 30.

Born Yalding, Maidstone, Kent, son of William and Emma Cheeseman, late of Mereworth.

1909, March Quarter, Malling Registration District, married Clarrisa Hephzibah Compton, of Butcher's Lane, Mereworth, Maidstone, Kent.

1911 Census - Kent Street, Mereworth, Maidstone, Kent - Edmund Cheeseman, head, age 25, married, general labourer, born Yalding, Kent; Clarrisa Hephzibah Cheeseman, wife, age 28, married 2 years, 2 children born alive , 2 children died, born Trosley, Kent.

Enlisted Shornecliffe, Kent.

23rd August 1914, posted BEF.

1917 June Quarter, Malling Registration District, Clarrisa Hephzibah  Cheeseman, married Harry Bell.

Buried at St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen,   B. 22. 9.Seine-Maritime, France and commemorated at  St. Lawrence Church, Mereworth, Kent, on a rough hewn stone slab on the roadside outside the churchyard, also on The Street side of the church wall near the stone of remembrance, a shield shaped tablet with recessed lettering "IN LOVING MEMORY/ OF / EDMUND CHEESEMAN/ DIED IN ACTION/ OCT 1ST 1916. AGE 30/ I.H.S.
