Born 19th October 1897, High Town, Luton, Bedfordshire, enlisted 17th June 1919, Gravesend, Kent, age 21, height 5ft 6 inches, weight 115lbs. Formerly bus conductor.

Son of Harry & Kate Newins, 107 All Saints Road, Northfleet, Kent. Brothers: George Newins; Bert Newins.

Previously served LZ4369, Royal Naval Division, 23rd November 1915 to 14th March 1919, 3 years 133 days. Class Z Army Reserve.

Home, 17th June 1919 to 17th December 1919.

17th June 1919, enlisted ; 20th June 1919, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 25th June 1919. posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 11th October 1919, posted 2nd Battalion, Home Station Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

17th December 1919, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness Silver War Badge issued.

Former Service in the RNVR allowed to reckon from 23rd November 1915. Qualifying Service for Pension 3 years, 112 days.

Pension, 12/- a week to be reviewed in 13 weeks, disability 30%, neurasthenia.

1st November 1921, Gravesend, Kent, enlisted as gunner, Kent Royal Garrison Artillery, 1667326, age 24, height 5ft 7½ inches, weight 125lbs, resided 107 All Saints Road, Northfleet, Kent. Formerly labourer.

30th July 1922 to 13th August 1922, Annual Training. 8th May 1923, became Kent Coast Brigade, 107 Battery. 1923, granted leave from Annual Training.

Letter from man - "I wish to be excused from annual camp. I am still suffering from my old complaint developed during the war, neurasthenia and do not wish to be a source of trouble to people around me. As a matter of fact I am physically unfit for service. I was wounded at Pashendale Ridge in 1917, Prisoner of War and finally discharged from the RNVR. I then enlisted in the RWK ???? ???? ???? and was again discharged as being of no use to HM Forces. I would ask you to consider my discharge in connection with the RGA and oblige."

1924, became Heavy Battery, Royal Artillery.

5th July 1924, discharged at Dover, Kent, medically unfit.
