Born Floriana, Valetta, Malta, enlisted 10th September 1914, Chatham, age 26, height 6? feet 4 inches, weight 112lbs, resided Vicarage Cottage, Trafalgar Street, Gillingham, Kent. Formerly boiler maker.

Son of Annie Greenaway, 24 Idas? Hammett? Casapaula? Malta.

10th September 1914, & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 29th October 1914, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 2nd April 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th May 1915, application to transfer to The Royal Engineers; 25th May 1915, posted BEF; 5th December 1915, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 22nd January 1916, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; from 27th March 1916, employed at The Engineering Department, HM Dockyard Portsmouth, authority Minister of Munitions, ceases to draw pay and allowances; 28th March 1916, posted Depot,  Royal West Kent Regiment; 4th November 1916, inpatient at Fairlight Sanatorium, Old London Road, Ore, Hastings, Sussex, pulmonary tuberculosis.

30th November 1916, letter from Health Department, Town Hall, Portsmouth, Municipal Tuberculosis Dispensary, Anglesey Road to The Commanding Officer, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, Maidstone Barracks, Maidstone, Kent - this man has asked me to write to you on his behalf. He was in the Army, but was withdrawn  in order to take up munition work. I saw him some time ago and found signs of consumption in his chest, and I have now sent him into Fairlight Sanatorium. I think he has undoubtedly got tuberculosis, and I will commend the case to you in the hope that something might be done to relieve the man's financial embarrassment during his time in the sanitorium.

30th January 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued

Pension, 25/- a week for 6 months, conditional.
