15th September 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 15th September 1915, posted 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th December 1915, Maidstone, when on Active Service, overstaying his leave from ? am until apprehended by Civil Police, 4th January 1916, (168 hours), 14 days confined to Barracks, forfeits 8 days pay for absence; 24th June 1916, awarded 14 days Field Punishment No1. by Commanding Officer; 25th August 1916, 139 Field Ambulance, admitted JCT 1st finger, left? hand; 9th October 1916, reported wounded & missing; 26th May 1917, Rev Basil Aston, C.F. (Chaplain to the Forces), reports burial.

13th August 1919, letter from Sarah Funnell, mother, 154, Silverdale Road, Tunbridge Wells - "Dear sir I received the little parcel with books and his letters and ???? from my dear son the late soldier pte Alfred Victor Funnell 9953/10th Batt Royal West Kent Regt dear sir I thank you with all my heart for your kindness and I am very glad to have them we miss him very much he was a good son to me God know I hope he is better off dear say shall be glad when this war is over we have had 8 in the family killed in this war I do hope please god the war will soon end thanking you for what you have done for me I am ??? yours truly Mrs Sarah Funnell from a grateful and thankful mother."

Buried at Guards' Cemetery, IV. L. 4, Lesboeufs, France.
