Enlisted 14th October 1914, Hertford, resided 17 East Road, Dunmow Road, Bishops Stortford, Essex. Formerly Telegraph labourer, GPO.

Previously served in 24th (Home Counties) Battalion, The Rifle Brigade, 320 / 5467.

3rd December 1917, left Jubbuelpore; 5th December 1917, embarked Bombay, HT Egra; 11th December 1917, Basra, disembarked; 28th August 1918, Baghdad, dental treatment; 12th September 1918, admitted 65 BGH; 19th September 1918, transferred to 31 BGH; 27th October 1918, discharged to Duty; 9th March 1919, Mosul, rejoined Unit.

13th March 1919, Medical Board report, Mosul, Mesopotamia - injury to left knee resulting in traumatic synovitis. Patient states he was in hospital for 62 days and that the knee remained swollen and painful for three weeks. At present the knee joint appears a little stiff, there is no malformation nor apparent thickening of the capsule. Marching however (he states) causes the joint to become swollen and he has had to fall out on the march. 20% disability.

22nd November 1919, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued

Disability 20%, injury to knee (synovitis of left knee), caused by transport mule bolting, 1st December 1916.

Provisional award of 8/- a week from 23rd November 1919. Expires, 25th May 1920. Medical report 30th January 1920, now 5%, final award in lieu of provisional, 5/6 a week to 1st February 1921.
