Private Alfred CHEESEMAN, 5511, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Enlisted 16th January 1915, Bromley, Kent, age 25, height 5ft 8 inches, resided River View Cottage, Shoreham, Kent. Formerly cowkeeper. Note - deformed little finger on left hand.

Son of William Cheeseman, River View Cottage, Shoreham, Kent.

16th January 1915, enlisted and posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 22nd January 1915, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th August 1915, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.

15th May 1916, 2nd East General Hospital, Brighton - Medical Report - Disability, aphonia (paralysis of larynx). Date & place of origin of disability, 3 years ago Shoreham in Kent. He states that for some years past he has had a cough and weakness of voice, that since joining the Army he has hardly been on parade on account cough, shortness of breath, etc; that in February the cough became very bad and he became completely aphonia, and has remained so. Caused by bronchitis & laryngitis, not be active service. Permanently unfit.

5th June 1916, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued
