His Majesty the KING has been pleased to confer the under mentioned rewards for gallantry and distinguished service in the Field.

The acts of gallantry for which the decorations have been awarded will be announced in the London Gazette as early as practicable:

Awarded the Distinguished Service Order.

Royal West Kent Regiment - The under mentioned to be acting Captains (additional):

Temporary 2nd Lieutenant A Drumgold, D.S.O. (Special Reserve). 9 January 1918.

With reference to the awards conferred as announced in the London Gazette, dated 27th October, 1917, the following are the statements of services for which the decorations were conferred :

AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER.

2nd Lieutenant Arthur Drumgold, Royal West Kent Regiment, Special Reserve.

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He led his company forward and gained his objectives in the face of heavy machine-gun and rifle fire from enemy strong points. With eight men he remained in an isolated position without food or water for thirty-six hours under very heavy artillery fire, holding his position until relieved. He set a splendid example throughout the engagement.

Royal West Kent Regiment

The under mentioned relinquish the acting rank of Captain:

18 March 1918. - Lieutenant  A. Drumgold, D.S.O., M.C. (Special Reserve).

London Gazette 12th December 1919.

Royal West Kent Regiment - Lieutenant A. Drumgold, D.S.O. (3rd Battalion Special Reserve), relinquishes the temporary rank of Captain on ceasing to be employed with a Service Battalion. -  7 November 1919.

London Gazette 2nd November 1920.

3rd Royal West Kent Regiment   - Lieutenant A. Drumgold, D.S.O., and is granted the rank of Captain.
