Lance Serjeant (Cadet), Charles Percival PAYNE, 11324, 7th Officer Cadet Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Enlisted 24th November 1915, Chatham, Kent, age 34, height 5ft 7 inches, resided 38 Ernest Road, Chatham, Kent. Formerly shipwright.

Husband of Emma Maud Payne (nee Cass), 38 Ernest Road, Chatham, Kent. Married Register Office, Rochford, Essex, 13th June 1912.

Children  - Isabel Maud Payne, born 26th November 1912, Chatham, Kent; Lilian Clara Payne, born 7th November 1914, Chatham, Kent.

30th October 1916, promoted Corporal; 31st October 1917, promoted Sergeant.

30th September 1918, Larkhill, Whilst on Active Service, being absent without leave from 8.00am 30th September until 7pm the same date, reprimanded.

17th March 1919, Transferred to Reserve and Demobilized to 9 Gordon Road, Strood, Kent.

18th March 1919, awarded pension of 13/- a week and allowance of 4/8 a week for two children, for 40% disability for gun shot wound right eye.

His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to award the Military Medal for bravery in the Field to the under mentioned Lady, Non - commissioned Officers and Men:
