Lance Corporal John Norman SEAL, G/1025,  2nd Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died Persian Gulf, with Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force,  26th April 1916.

Born Four Elms, Edenbridge, Kent.

9th January 1876, Edenbridge, Kent, baptism of John Norman Seal, son of John & Eliza Seal.

19th February 1905, St John, Dormansland, Surrey, John Norman Seal, age 29, bachelor, Check Clerk, Sothwark, father, John Seal, blacksmith, married *Annie Emily Culver, age 39, widow, Dormansland, father, Matthew Bartholomew, game keeper.  *born 22nd October 1864.


1911 Census - 73 Hambro Road, Streatham, London SW - John Norman Seal, head, age 36, married tramway labourer, London County Council, worker, born Four Elms, Kent; Annie Emily Seal, wife, age 46, married 6 years, no children, born Eversley, Hampshire.


Enlisted Woolwich, Kent.

Buried at  Amara War Cemetery, XX. F. 9., Iraq.

NOTE from CWGC -  In 1933, all of the headstones were removed from this cemetery when it was discovered that salts in the soil were causing them to deteriorate. Instead a screen wall was erected with the names of those buried in the cemetery engraved upon it.
