5th July 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th July 1915, posted 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 29th October 1915, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 21st February 1916, apointed paid Lance Corporal; 3rd May 1916, posted BEF; 4th November 1917, posted Depot; 13th December 1917, 1st Western General Hospital, Fazakerley, remains in Chalet |VAD.

3rd January 1918, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued 

Pension, 27/6 for 4 weeks, then 22/- a week to be reviewed in 26 weeks. Disability rheumatism.
