Lance Corporal George Frederick BLACKBURN, G/4158, 8th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders, France, 1st September 1916, age 33.

Born Kennington, London, SE, son of Charles Blackburn, of 21, Montrose Road, Penge, London.

25th October 1913, Holy Trinity, Beckenham, married Elizabeth Sarah Macdonald, spinster of 4, Gordon Terrace, Inverness.  Witnesses, Barnabas Blackburn & Minnie Blackburn.

Child  - Doris Macdonald, born 18th December 1914, Croydon.

Home 21st October 1914 to 29th August 1915; BEF 30th August 1915 to 1st September 1916.

Enlisted 21st October 1914, Kingston on Thames, age 31, height 5ft 6inches, weight 136lbs, defective teeth.  Resided Inverness N B. Formerly a butler.

21st October 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 4th November 1914, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th May 1915, Shoreham, absent without leave from Tattoo until Tattoo, 1st inst. deprived of 3 days pay, forfeits 3 days pay,10 days confined to Barracks; 14th December 1915, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 8th March 1916, appointed paid Lance Corporal.

 26th March 1917, pension of 17/6d a week awarded  to widow and one child, then living at 32 Charles Street, Inverness.

Commemorated at  Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, Somme, France.
