Born Catford, Kent, enlisted 11th December 1915, Chatham, Kent, age 23, height 5ft 8½ inches, weight 138lbs, resided 2 Walnut Cottages, Borstal, nr Rochester, Kent / 18 Cookham Hill, Borstal, nr Rochester, Kent. Formerly stockman on farm.

Son of John Hancock, Heath Farm, Headley nr Epsom, Surrey.

Husband of Mrs A Hancock, 18 Cookham Hill, Borstal, nr Rochester, Kent.

Home, 11th December 1915 to 5th September 1916; BEF, 6th September 1916 to 2nd April 1917.

11th December 1915, enlisted; 12th December 1915, to Army Reserve; 9th February 1916, mobilized; 10th February 1916, posted 12th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, 12078; 1st September 1916, transferred to 23rd Brigade Training Reserve, TR/10/40429; 1st September 1916, posted 99th Battalion, Training Reserve; 6th September 1916, posted 11th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, 18330 & BEF; 8th October 1916, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 4th February 1917, wounded; 5th February 1917, 3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, pulping of both eyes; 6th February 1917, Boulogne 13 Stationary Hospital; 22nd February 1917, excision (removal) of right eye, evisceration (removing the internal material from the eye) left eye, to England on Hospital Ship; 23rd February to 13th March 1917, 2nd London (City of London) General Hospital, gun shot wound both eye, both eyes excised, to St Dunstans, discharged approved.

2nd April 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued

Pension, 25/- a week for life.

Died 6th May 1922, 18 Cookham Hill, Borstal, nr Rochester, Kent. Pulmonary tuberculosis.
