Born St Pauls, Sheerness, Kent, enlisted 7th April 1908, Sheerness, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 6½ inches, weight 117lbs, resided 7 Bedford Terrace, Tunbridge Wells, Kent / 27 Malmains Road, Dover, Kent / 68 Burnt Back Terrace, Gillingham, Kent / 11 East Lane, Blue Town, Sheerness, Kent. Formerly labourer.

Home, 7th April 1908 to 13th August 1914; BEF, 14th August 1914 to 4th May 1915; Home, 5th May 1915 to 5th September 1917.

7th April 1908, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 21st July 1908, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st September 1911, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 29th October 1911, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 18th January 1912, reverted to Private; 13th May 1914, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 14th July 1914, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 28th October 1914, wounded, face; 11th February 1915, appointed Acting Corporal; 18th April 1915, wounded, gun shot wound, right arm; 5th May 1915, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

5th September 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued 

Pension, 22/- a week to be reviewed in 26 weeks. Disability, gun shot wound, right arm, elbow joint also lost right eye.
