Corporal Sidney James  CROSS, G/347, 6th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, death presumed as 3rd July 1916. 

Born Lindfield, Haywards Heath, Sussex, son of Caroline Cross.

Enlisted Bromley, Kent, age 22 years & 3 days, height 5ft 8 ½ inches, weight 134 lbs, fresh complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, several small pit marks on forehead. Formerly footman. Resided Station Road, Annerley?, near Arundel, Sussex.

Home 26th August 1914 to 31st May 1915; BEF 1st June 1915 to 3rd July 1916.

26th August 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th August 1914, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 23rd October 1915, appointed unpaid lance Corporal; 13th January 1916, appointed Acting Corporal; 15th April 1916, promoted Corporal; 3rd July 1916, posted missing.

1st May 1916, Lindfield, Sussex, married Esther Wakeham.

5th March 1917, pension of 10/6 a week awarded to widow, now Mrs Esther Morris, 27 Kynaston Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey.

Buried at Lonsdale Cemetery, II. D. 12., Authuile, Somme, France.
