25th February 1909, enlisted Chatham & preliminary Training; 22nd May 1909 to 5th June 1909, Camp Dover, Annual Training; 30th July 1911 to 10th August 1911, Camp Crowborough, Annual Training; 1912, Annual Training, Worthing, Sussex; 12th February 1913, re-engaged for 1 year; 12th February 1914, re-engaged for 1 year; 5th August 1914, posted 5th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th January 1916, posted 3/5th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th April 1916, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 17th July 1916, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 20th October 1916, promoted Corporal, 4th Reserve Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th January 1917, attached 1/20th London Regiment; 15th January 1917, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th February 1917, promoted Corporal; 17th July 1917, wounded, gun shot wound left knee joint; 7th August 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

26th December 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued 

Pension, 30/- a week for 4 weeks, then 12/- a week to be reviewed in 48 weeks.
