Corporal Laurence Pearson CLAMP, 204077, 7th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment,  (formerly 1187, London Regiment), killed in action, Becordel-Becourt, Somme, Flanders France, 23rd August 1918, age 27.

Born 3rd April 1891, Walsham le Willows, Suffolk, youngest Son of William Clamp, and Alice, (daughter of William & Mary Hayward), of Walsham-le-Willows, Suffolk.

Educated East Anglian School, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk and Goldsmith's College, London.


1911 Census - Henry William Beal, head, age 73, married, Police pensioner, born Dunkirk, Kent; Caroline Beal, wife, age 70, married 50 years, 5 children, 1 still alive, born Boughton, Kent; Lawrence P Clamp, boarder, age 20, single, assistant teacher, County Council, born Walsham le Willows, Suffolk.


13th June 1914, at Herne Hill Parish Church, Faversham, Kent, married Beatrice Alice Clamp, (daughter of Thomas Philpott, School House, Great Gidding, Peterborough), 72, High St., Ramsgate, Kent.

Child - Lancelot Lewis Clamp, born 6th May 1916.

Enlisted 1913, New Cross, Kent. Resided Blackheath, SE. Formerly schoolmaster.

Served with the Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders from 9th August 1918.

Buried at Becourt Military Cemetery, II. B. 8., Becordel-Becourt, Somme, France.
