Born Alford, Lincolnshire, enlisted 24th September 1914, Maidstone, Kent, age 39, height 5ft 5½ inches, weight 126lbs, resided 43 Grosvenor Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Formerly ticket writer.

Previously served in 3rd Volunteer Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment.

Husband to Maud Mary Lawrence, (nee Jury, spinster), married 3rd September 1910, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Home, 24th September 1914 to 18th September 1916.

24th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment as Corporal; 24th September 1914, posted 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 8th March 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 4th September 1915 to 25th September 1915, Fort Pitt Hospital, Chatham, Kent, rheumatism; 25th September 1915 to 1st November 1915, Howard De Walden Hospital, Maidstone, Kent, acute rheumatism; 1st November 1915 to 5th November 1915, Drill Hall, Chatham, Kent, rheumatism; 5th November 1915 to 10th December 1915, Royal Mineral Water Hospital, Bath, muscular rheumatism; 26th August 1916, Fort Pitt Hospital, Chatham, Kent, old Phthisis ( archaic name for tuberculosis).

4th September 1916, Medical Report - old Phthisis ( archaic name for tuberculosis), origin unknown. Always rather delicate. Under canvas Winter 1914. Had general rheumatic pains, head shoulders and limbs & felt run down. September 1915, went sick. Complains of headaches & general pains shoulders & chest. Not caused by, but aggravated by Military Service. Prevents ¼ permanently.

18th September 1916, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 7/- a week for 12 months, final.

13th March 1918, last award cancelled & revised to 9/- a week from 4th April 1917 to end of final period.
