Corporal Fred FOSTER, 9606, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Born St Clements, Leeds, Yorkshire, enlisted 15th June 1911, age 18, height 5ft 7 inches, weight 114lbs, resided 38 Elford Place, Roundhay Road, Leeds, Yorkshire. Formerly errand boy.

Educated at Duke of Yorks Royal Military School, Royal Hibernian Military School. 3rd Class, 3rd March 1911; 2nd Class 11th April 1911, during drill on enlistment.

No next of kin.

Previously served in 3rd Battalion, Special Reserve, Royal West Kent Regiment.

Home, 15th June 1911 to 13th August 1914; BEF, 14th August 1914 to 18th November 1914; Home, 19th November 1914 to 2nd January 1915.

15th June 1911, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 10th July 1911, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 14th December 1912, Mounted Infantry; 23rd June 1913, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 25th October 1913, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 7th August 1914, promoted Corporal.

Wounded severely, forearm amputated.

2nd January 1915, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued
