Corporal Edward Herbert FISHENDEN, G/24539, 7th  Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, (received on the 5th November 1918), at No.55. Casualty Clearing Station, Flanders France, 7th November 1918, age 19. 

Born 9th June 1899, Stutton, Ipswich, Suffolk, only surviving Son of Elias Henry Fishenden, (Head Gardener at Great Culverden, Tunbridge Wells, Kent), and Elizabeth Fishenden, (daughter of William Wallis), of The Gardens, Great Culverden, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Educated Woodbridge National School.


1911 Census - Abbey Lodge, Seckford Street, Woodbridge, Suffolk - Elias Fishenden, head, age 45, married, gardener domestic, born Kilndown, Goudhurst, Kent; Elizabeth Fishenden, wife, age 45, married 25 years, 4 children, 3 still alive, born Lamberhurst, Kent; Edward Fishenden, son, age 11, school, born Stutton, Suffolk.


Brother to Signaller H A Fishenden.

Enlisted October 1914, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  Formerly Under Gardener.

Served with the Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders from 29th December 1916, where he saw much fighting; was wounded three times and once gassed; August 1917 he was made King's Corporal on the Field for Gallantry.

Unmarried

Buried at  Premont British Cemetery,  II. E. 6., Aisne, France.
