Company Quartermaster Serjeant John Thomas QUINLAN, L/8442, 2nd Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Born Plumstead, Kent, enlisted 5th November 1906, Maidstone, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 6 inches, weight 120lbs. Formerly labourer.

Son of John & Mary Quinlan, 101 Elm Street, Plumstead, Kent.

Formerly served in 3rd Royal West Kent Regiment, Special Reserve, 6339, from 11th September 1906.

15th October 1907, Woolwich, slovenly conduct in Hill Street about 10.00pm, loitering in Artillery Place in service dress & giving a false regimental number and name to Military Police, 8 days confined to Barracks; 14th September 1909, appointed Lance Corporal;  10th October 1912, promoted Corporal; 10th October 1914, promoted Sergeant; 29th May 1915, Ahwaz, admitted No.4. Field Ambulance, diarrhoea; 5th June 1915, Ahwaz, discharged; 11th December 1915, Amarah, admitted to hospital, malaria; 11th December 1915, Amarah, discharged from  hospital; 2nd June 1916, Khanisirah, appointed to perform the duties of Company Quartermaster Sergeant; 25th July 1916, relinquished the appointment of Company Quartermaster Sergeant; 27th December 1916 admitted to hospital, catarrh and bronchitis; 18th January 1917, discharged from hospital; 20th January 1917, rejoined Battalion; 20th January 1918, appointed acting Company Quartermaster Sergeant; 5th April 1918, reverts to permanent rank of Sergeant; 26th June 1918, appointed to perform the duties of Company Quartermaster Sergeant; 18th July 1919, transferred to Reserve to take up Civil Employment in Mesopotamia with Inspector General of Civil Jails, Baghdad.

His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Meritorious Service Medal to the following Warrant Officers, Non-commissioned Officers and Men, in recognition of valuable services rendered with the British Forces in Mesopotamia:
