Second Lieutenant  Vivian Charles Wolfe SUTTON, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, (attached 2nd / 20th Battalion, London Regiment), died of wounds, at Havrincourt, France, 14th September 1918, age 22.

Born 19th February 1896, Clare House, Sidcup, Kent, eldest Son of Charles Robert Arnold Sutton, (MD Cantab),  and Charlotte Amelia, (daughter of James William Wolfe), of Clare House, Sidcup, Kent.

26th February 1896, Christ Church, Holborn, baptism of Vivian Charles Wolfe Sutton, son of Charles Robert Arnold (MA & MD Cantab), & Charlotte Amelia Sutton, Highfield, Sidcup, Kent.

Educated Rugby, Warwickshire.

Formerly Articled Chartered Accountant.

He was a thorough sportsman, taking an especially keen interest in Rugby football and cricket, at which latter game he played several times for The Honourable Artillery Company.

September 1914, joined The Honourable Artillery Company; April 1916, served with his Battalion in Ireland during the Rebellion; was subsequently transferred to the 2/13th London Regiment and served with the Expeditionary Force in France & Flanders from the following June, where he took part in much fighting, and was present at the operation round Vimy Ridge;  proceeded to Salonika in November of the same year and later, to Egypt & Palestine, where he took part in the entry into Jerusalem in  December 1917; received a commission and was Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant, The Royal West Kent Regiment, in March 1918; he was attached to the 2/20th London Regiment, returning to France in the Summer of 1918.

The Adjutant wrote:" He had not been with us very long, but in a comparatively short time had endeared himself to everyone with whom he came in contact. Always willing and cheerful, The Commanding Officer had a great idea of him, and expected great things from him. He told me so several times. It came as a terrible blow to hear of his death. It is hard for me to say what so many of us feel."

23rd January 1919, Probate - Vivian Charles Wolfe Sutton, of Clare House, Sidcup, Kent, Lieutenant Royal West Kent Regiment, attached 20th Battalion, London Regiment, died 14th September 1918, in France. Administration London 23rd January to  Charles Robert Arnold Sutton, MD. Effects £821 4s 5d.

Buried at Ruyaulcourt Military Cemetery,  J. 23., France. Commemorated Sidcup War Memorial / Sidcup, St John the Evangelist / Murton Court Preparatory School, Sidcup, Kent
