The under mentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants for service in the Field:

Royal West Kent Regiment. - Serjeant (acting Company Quarter Master Serjeant) Arthur John Purchase, from Coldstream Guards. 6th May 1918.

London Gazette 2nd December 1918.

His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased of the following awards to the under mentioned officers and Warrant Officers in recognition of their gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field:

AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS.

2nd Lt. Arthur John Purchase, 1st Battalion, Royal West  Kent Regiment.

For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership. After all other officers of his company had become casualties he took command and so ably led them in  an attack that he obtained the objective with the loss of one man, captured thirty prisoners and two machine guns and accounting for many of the enemy. He has constantly done fine work.
